Crocheting was a hobby...

Crocheting was a new hobby as I recovered from a spinal operation. Now it's a passion that connects me to my ancestors, spirituality & creativity

I was introduced to Chicano fashion as a baby cholita/Chicanita growing up in the emerging Low Rider Community in Hayward, California. Our iconic counterculture look featured oversized, sharply creased baggy Ben Davidson pants, khakis, or Levi jeans, white muscle shirts paired with sharply creased Pendleton or Charlie Brown shirts, topped off with matching Converse sneakers or Winos.
The Chicano aesthetic thrives in two major cultures: the styling of Hip Hop and Japanese culture. While there are no official statistical reports to support my statement, as a baby cholita, I witnessed our fashion style adopted by HipHop Culture, i.e., oversized clothes, tattoos, and stylized Low Riders. The aesthetics of Chicano style are rooted in 500 years of resilience and resistance that includes Pacheco Zoot Suits, Lowrider Style, and 1990s Chola fashion.
I started Gloryalicious in 2018 as I was healing from a decompression spinal surgery. I received a crochet hook and one skein of acrylic yarn that belonged to my late mother. As I picked my new tools, a powerful healing energy flowed into my hands. With a $50 gift card to Michaels, I embarked on a new journey into a world of skilled designers and crafters of wearable textile art. I became captivated by patterns, colors, designs, and textiles.
